HTTP/1.1 server in C++

An HTTP/1.1 server built from scratch in C++ to explore the protocol that underpins the web.

The challenge

Modern web frameworks make it easy to deliver a response while hiding the network and protocol details that make the exchange possible.

We built an HTTP/1.1 server from scratch in C++ as a systems engineering project. Its purpose is to study the request-response cycle and the boundary between network input and an HTTP response, without presenting it as a production hosting service.

What we built

A product made of connected parts.

01

Protocol behavior

Understand how an HTTP/1.1 request and response are represented on the wire.

02

Network boundary

Explore the connection between a client, a server process and bytes received over a socket.

03

C++ systems work

Keep the implementation close to the language and operating system rather than delegating the protocol to a web framework.

The result

The project turns HTTP from an abstraction into a concrete systems study. It is an engineering lab, not a claim of standards certification, production readiness or performance benchmarks.
